Arsenal were looking to redeem themselves when they visited Turkey to play against Fenerbahce on Wednesday. And that is what they rightly did after 90 minutes of football. They gunned down three goals in the Fenerbahce goal thus silencing their critics!
Welshman Aaron Ramsey made his mark the second time on his visit to the Sukru Saracoglu. The last time being the injury time goal in for the Gunners in a routing of the Turkish team which ended in Arsenal winning 5-2.
The game was definitely going to be a treat, but nobody said it was ever going to be a one-sided goal fest after Arsenal dominated the first half which literally left me on the edge of my seat because I was expecting a goal from them at any moment from then in the match.
Arsenal were going about doing their job right from the word go! Several attempts were made on goal in the early minutes of the game with Walcott and Wilshere who pierced through the Fenerbahce defense at regular intervals.
Fenerbahce goalkeeper Volkan Demirel was kept on his toes by the Arsenal forward line and was almost breached when Fenerbahce goalkeeper dive full length to save Giroud’s header which came a little wide off the post.
At the half hour mark Laurent Koscielny was hit unintentionally in the face by Pierre Webo which saw another Arsenal player being added to the injury list. The injury saw Carl Jenkinson come on as a right back as Sagna assisted captain Mertesacker in central defense to guard the Arsenal goal.
The only real attempt from Fenerbahce was a shot by Ex-Liverpool player Dirk Kuyt which went above the post. He wasn’t in the best of his form too.
The second half saw Arsenal come out with a purpose to fulfill and within six minutes of the second half fine gameplay from Ramsey saw him put the ball to Walcott who put in a low cross who netted it home for the Gunners, it didn’t seem like he had an injury at all, only till he removed the tape from his brow after some rigorous celebration 😀
On the hour mark, Ramsey went about doing his work and pierced the defense with low shot into the goal which saw the Fenerbahce almost get to it but not just enough yet!
The job was done but not yet, Arsenal had more in store for the Turkish club after hardly any real efforts from them to spoil the day for Arsenal.
The Arsenal defense had done their job till an unmarked Sow who could cause enough damage was left to have an attempt at the goal in the form of a header which went above the crossbar and put Arsenal in a safer position than they were two minutes back.
Arsenal saw Giroud net in their third goal from a penalty after Walcott was dropped in the box by defender Michael Kadlec which saw Arsenal seal a much deserved victory in time.
Szczesny made a fine saves at the end from Kuyt’s shot and Emmanuel Emenike’s final attempt to secure Arsenal’s first clean sheet.
Arsenal deserved to win! And that’s how they silenced their critics.
Wenger is on an all time high saying now is when the real time starts for Arsenal to pick the right players before the transfer market closes for the season.
